Steel Door Lites: True vs. Simulated -
Which is best for you?

True Divided Lites

  • Pros:

    • Offer a classic and timeless aesthetic.

    • Provide excellent light transmission.

    • Can be customized with various glass options.

  • Cons:

    • Can be more expensive to manufacture and install.

    • Requires more maintenance due to the multiple glass panes.

    • May be more susceptible to breakage.

    • While they offer a classic aesthetic, true divided lites can have thermal breaks between the glass panes. These breaks can allow heat to transfer more readily, impacting the door's energy efficiency

Simulated Divided Lites

  • Pros:

    • More affordable than true divided lites.

    • Require less maintenance.

    • Offer a similar aesthetic to true divided lites.

    • Often achieve higher NFRC ratings due to their reduced thermal bridging and improved insulation properties. This means they can help to keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, leading to potential energy cost savings

  • Cons:

    • May not have the same level of light transmission as true divided lites.

    • Can be less durable over time.

Both true divided lites and simulated divided lites offer unique advantages and disadvantages. The best choice for your steel door depends on your budget, aesthetic preferences, and desired level of maintenance.
